Wojtek Chodzko-Zajko - Biographical Sketch:

Wojtek  Chodzko-Zajko earned a B.Ed degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of London and a Ph.D. degree from Purdue University, also in Exercise Physiology. Wojtek completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Research on Aging at Purdue University.

Following three years with the Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Alabama, Wojtek moved to Kent State University in 1990, where he is currently  Professor of Exercise Science in the School of Exercise, Leisure, and Sport.

Wojtek's primary research interests are in the area of aging and physical activity. For the past fifteen years he has focused on the effect of exercise and physical activity on sensory, motor, and cognitive functioning in old age. In support of this research project, Dr. Chodzko-Zajko has established an on-going longitudinal study of exercise and aging at the Kent State University campus.

Chodzko-Zajko serves on the World Health Organization, Scientific Advisory Committee which recently issued Guidelines for Physical Activity in Older Adults. He also serves on the American College of Sports Medicine Strategic Health Initiative on Aging and Exercise.  Dr. Chodzko-Zajko is Editor of the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity. He was recently appointed President of the International Society on Aging and Physical Activity.

As a result of his involvement with JAPA, the WHO and ACSM, Chodzko-Zajko is frequently invited to disseminate information about healthful aging as a keynote speaker in national and international meetings.  Chodzko-Zajko has recently traveled to Kuwait, Japan, France, Belgium, Slovenia, Germany, Hong Kong and Israel in order to speak on topics related to aging and physical activity.

Chodzko-Zajko will be the chairperson of the 1999 World Congress on Aging and Activity.
