Biographical Sketch: SANDRA O'BRIEN COUSINS

A Professor in Exercise Gerontology in the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation at the University of Alberta, Sandra O'Brien Cousins is a prominent social scientist in exercise gerontology, health psychology and health promotion. Her prolific research and publication record since 1990 is enhancing scientific understanding of the motivational barriers to older adult health promotion through active living. Dr. Cousins is an Honorary Member of Canada's Active Living Coalition for Older Adults, on the executive of the International Society of Aging and Physical Activity and Associate Editor for the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity. She is author of two new books: Exercise, Aging and Health (1998), and Active Living Among Older Adults: Health benefits and Outcomes (1999).
